Floodplain Management & Regulations

The City of Edwardsville participates in the  National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Kansas Department of Agriculture Water Resources Division.  This program makes flood insurance available to property owners located in identified floodplains in Edwardsville.  These floodplains are identified through the development of the Wyandotte County, Kansas Flood Insurance Study (FIS).  This study and the associated Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) panels have been updated in 2015.

As a result of this update activity by FEMA the City of Edwardsville Governing Body adopted Ordinance 949 Edwardsville Floodplain Management Regulations  in keeping with the requirements for maintaining eligibility in the NFIP.  In addition to the link referencing the adopted regulations, the Kansas Department of Agriculture Division of Water Resources has created a map viewer at  http://gis.kda.ks.gov/wyandotte/  This viewer does not contain all the information that can be found on the FIRM panel maps, but can provide general guidance regarding the location of identified floodplain areas.

The effective FIRM panels are currently available at City Hall.  If you have any questions regarding these regulations as they may relate to your property or project please contact the City Planner at 913 441-3707 ext 19.
