The Edwardsville City Council will hold a public hearing on August 26, 2019 to finalize the 2020 Annual Budget. The budget as proposed calls for reducing the mill levy 1/4 mills on City property tax bills. This is the third year in a row that the City anticipates some property tax relief included in its adopted budget. The mill levy is the "tax rate" that is applied to the assessed value of a property. One mill is one dollar per $1,000 dollars of assessed value. It consists of a local portion which is used to fund area services and a statewide portion which is used to fund public schools. The City of Edwardsville's mill levy represents about 25% of a resident's total property tax bill. The remainder is made up of costs associated with Wyandotte County, USD 204, the KCK Community College, and the Wyandotte County/KCK Public Library.

Also included in the proposed budget is an additional staff member in the Parks & Recreation Division for groundskeeping and maintenance duties. This position would primarily be tasked with beautification efforts for parks and public spaces, including the Edwardsville Cemetery, Community Center, and City rights-of-way.

A narrative of the the entire 2020 Budget should be made available online prior to the close of 2019.
