Beginning with this billing cycle, rates will be different for Edwardsville utility customers. The per-month charge for weekly trash/recycling collection has increased $0.62 (or $1.24 per billing cycle). Residents will now be charged $36.24 every two months from now until the end of the year for collection service. This increase is to keep pace with the contractually obligated fee increases charged to the City by Waste Management. This contract will expire at the close of this year, at which point the City Council will be considering various options for solid waste service provision. Based on staff research, the 2020 monthly rate places Edwardsville near bottom of peer-community rates for similar service levels (see table below).
City | Monthly Charge | Service Level |
Edwardsville | $18.12 | Weekly recycling |
De Soto | $18.50 | Bi-weekly Recycling |
Tonganoxie | $19.50 | Bi-weekly Recycling |
Eudora | $19.50 | Bi-Weekly Recycling |
Similarly, the variable rate for residential and commercial sewer charges has also increased 3% each. New charges are $3.87/CCF for residential and $4.46/CCF for commercial. CCF stands for ‘centum cubic feet’ and is the charge based on actual water usage during the winter months used to calculate wastewater averages. One CCF equals about 748 gallons. Staff uses data provided by BPU to get an average water usage amount for customers in the months of December-February. This average usage (along with a base rate charge) is used to determine sewer bills for the whole year.
Bills are sent out February, April, June, August, October and December. They are due the 15th of January, March, May, July, September, and November.
