[ARCHIVED] CPPS Board Reach Decisions

park square

The CPPS Board held their regular meeting via call-in and the GoToMeeting software on May 13, 2020. At this meeting, the group came to the difficult decision to cancel the regular summer baseball/softball/t-ball league for 2020. This decision was made due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health situation. Though games would be possible beginning in July, social distancing throughout the practice period (June) would be difficult. This decision generally follows the Kansas Recreation and Parks Association (KRPA) guidelines and is in line with earlier decisions made by other communities who participate in the City’s league. City staff will be meeting with representatives from Bonner Springs, Wyandotte County, and USD 204 to come up with alternative programming options for the remainder of the summer. Some of these options may be reviewed at the June 10 meeting of the CPPS Board.

Additionally, the CPPS Board made the decision to re-format the upcoming Memorial Day service. Traditionally, the previous Cemetery Board and the local VFW held the event the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, which included a public service and prayer session. The VFW made the decision not to participate due to health concerns, though they will still station flags at veteran’s graves. CPPS Board members will also place the large flags at the Cemetery no later than Thursday, May 21. Currently, City staff is working to put together a more intimate event to honor our veterans which may involve participation from the Edwardsville Fire and Police Departments. More details about that will be released as they are finalized.
