[ARCHIVED] KC Disposal Selected as New Trash Hauler

KC Disposal

The City's existing contract with Waste Management for trash and recycling pickup will come to an end Dec. 30, 2020. Over the last half of the summer and into the fall, City officials solicited quotes from area trash haulers for weekly curbside trash and recycling recovery services.

Four agencies submitted proposals for the contract: Honey Creek Disposal, KC Disposal, Republic Services, and Waste Management. After staff and Council review, KC Disposal was selected as the City's new contracted partner in this area. Service will largely remain the same, weekly curbside trash pickup in a 95-gallon container and weekly curbside recycling pickup in a 65-gallon container. Staff intends on conducting the City-Wide Clean Up in the spring (if public health conditions allow) as well as a follow-up curbside bulky item pickup later in the fall. Rates are not expected to increase substantially, likely less than 1% (or less that 25 cents) every month. Rates are finalized by the City Council during their December meeting.

Service with KC Disposal will begin January 2021. Staff is working on finalizing a house count to provide to KC Disposal, who is also coordinating with the previous contractor on container pickup/drop off. For questions, please reach out to City Hall at 913-356-6000.
