In conjunction with the Edwardsville Fire Department, Edwardsville Parks & Recreation is offering a new, exciting program for the summer of 2022.
The EFD Junior Fire Academy will kick off in July with three separate programs for three different age groups. Details below:
- Ages 8-11, July 11-14: Our youngest age bracket will focus on home safety, fire prevention, first aid and CP, camp fire safety, and more. This is perfect for younger kids wanting to learn more about fire safety in their homes and during outdoor activities.
- Ages 12-14, July 18-21: In addition to the areas noted above, this age group will also include fire suppression demonstrations, car extraction demonstrations, and training in ropes, knots, turnout gear, and more!
- Ages 15-17, July 25-28: Our oldest age groups will get hands-on experience with car extraction tools, fire hoses, jaws of life, fire gear, air packs, and ladder training. Enrollees will also get facetime with representatives from the Johnson County Fire Sciences school so they will have all the information they need to turn their interest in fire service into a professional career
All age courses will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day and will include a light snack in the morning and lunch provided. Each group will receive EFD branded shirts, backpacks, and water bottles. The younger age group will also get a pop-up splash pad event courtesy of the EFD crews. Cost for each program is $35 per participant and there is a maximum of 16 registrants for each age group (NO EXCEPTIONS).
