At the February 27 meeting of the Edwardsville City Council, Mayor Carolyn Caiharr announced the upcoming retirement of City Manager Michael Webb.
Mr. Webb has served the City of Edwardsville for 16 years. During this tenure, the City's financial position was saved from near-bankruptcy to consistent fund balances in excess of $1 million and a AA- bond rating. Mr. Webb has overseen the professionalization of City operations in every department, restructuring City operations with professional staff and industry best-practice operational procedures. During this time, Mr. Webb also helped attract over $100 million in economic development activity to the City, primarily in the Edwardsville Industrial Park, located strategically near I-435 along Woodend Rd. This area pays the majority of City property taxes used to fund general City operations. This includes one of the larges FedEx distribution facilities in the country located in Edwardsville.
Mr. Webb plans on serving through late July. In that time, he will work with elected officials on the transition and a search for a new City Manager.
City staff wishes to congratulate Mr. Webb on his retirement announcement and thank him for his years of tireless service to the City.
