The Investigations Unit is tasked with following up crimes within the city which require time, attention, and expertise not available through Patrol. These can be far-ranging in scope from theft and drugs to burglary, assault and homicide.
Depending on the complexity of the case, their work often requires extensive effort by the detective to put together enough information to locate suspects, obtain sufficient evidence, write affidavit's and apply for search and/or arrest warrants. They also work closely with the Wyandotte County District Attorney's Office to achieve successful prosecution of suspects.
Not only do they provide that service to Edwardsville, they also work with other local law enforcement and Federal agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Marshall's Office just to name a few.
Edwardsville detectives are actively involved with the Kansas City Metro Squad, and receive on-going training in the areas of crime scene investigation, hostage negotiations, and interview techniques.
